​Odumodublvck Reignites Conversations About Tribalism In Nigeria

Nigerian rapper Odumodublvk has sparked online discussions about how one of Nigeria’s deepest sociocultural issues is much worse than racism.  ​

On October 29, 2025, the rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) with a simple message, “Tribalism is worse than racism,” and his post immediately struck a chord. Many, many Nigerians agreed with him, stating that tribalism, the bias and discrimination between ethnic groups within the same country, has caused more harm than racism ever could.

​Others slammed the singer’s take, stressing that racism cuts deeper than tribalism under any circumstance.

Tribalism is worse because it separates people of the same nation or race. While racism is hatred between different races, tribalism destroys unity among people who should stand together. It leads to favouritism, conflict, and lack of peace in society.

And only fools play by the rules of both. I’m not foolish enough to hate anyone, cos no one knows who lives till tomorrow. I don’t hate people for who they are. If you don’t want me around, I walk away. And if I don’t like being somewhere, you won’t find me there. The universe is vast.

Tribalism is destroying us from within while we keep shouting, 'Say no to racism.” How can we expect unity in Nigeria when we still judge each other based on tribe instead of character? Until we drop that mindset, we’ll never truly move forward.

No tribe is left out. Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa are 100% tribalistic.

Africans Treating Each Other Worse?

​In a recent interview on BET, Odumodublvck acknowledged the long history of racism and oppression in the United States, but added that Black Americans are now in a much better position than many Africans still dealing with systemic hardship and internal oppression.

I’m a Nigerian, and I’m saying that the things black people in America have suffered are nothing compared to the things black people have suffered at the hands of black people in Africa. I’m telling you, and I’m taking it to the bank. I'd rather someone from outside do me bad than my brother. I’ve said what I need to say.

Odumodublvck’s recent comments reopen the issue of tribalism and xenophobia that continues to plague African countries.
