2022 was a great year for TV and web shows!

There has never been more TV and web content than there is now. With more international streaming platforms entering the African market, we are only going to have more options.

With the new year around the corner, here are our TV and web picks for 2022:

‘The Real Housewives of Lagos’

Within a few weeks online, the Showmax reality TV show quickly became a hit with a dedicated audience thanks to the cast: Laura Ikeji, Carolyna Hutchings, Mariam Timmer, Iyabo Ojo, fashionistas Chioma Ikokwu, and Toyin Lawani-Adebayo.

Every week, the spin-off from the popular The Real Housewives series franchise trended for its interesting cast, ruined friendships, messy drama, and dirty laundry, which fans ate up. The show ended with a captivated fanbase clamouring for season two.

‘Blood Sisters’

Starting as a regular owambe (Nigerian party, in this case, a wedding), this Netflix limited series quickly turned into a refreshing thriller directed by the late Biyi Bandele and Kenneth Gyang.

Featuring a great cast including Kate Henshaw, Deyemi Okanlawon, Ini Dima-Okojie, Nany Isime, and breakout star, Genoveva Umeh, the rest of the series covered domestic violence, corruption, classism, addiction, and more.

'Diiche'

Despite being released in the latter part of the year, this Showmax original has already garnered a growing fan base for its impressive cast and captivating narrative.

Directed by James Omokwe, the psychological thriller follows the story of the titular lead, the obvious suspect in the murder investigation of her deceased fiancé, and her search for his killer.

'Visa on Arrival'

With the ongoing japa movement, many Nigerians can relate to the drama that comes with trying to get your visa, which is exactly why this comedy series works.

Created by Bovi Ugboma and aided by an entertaining cast, the show comically explores the day-to-day experiences of Nigerian citizens at the mercy of Immigration authorities.

'Little Black Book'

This year, season 2 returned with enough drama to satisfy the curiosity of the dedicated viewers after an exciting first season and a suspenseful finale.

Starring Ikechukwu Onunaku and veteran Kanayo O. Kanayo, the series tells the story of Leo, a millionaire hotel entrepreneur who is defying the odds to keep his business in the green, Tade, a brilliant business developer, who is trying to get her life back on track after a series of failures and a Little Black Book of gorgeous women, unfolding truths and hidden desires between them.
