7 governorship aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have withdrawn from the party’s primaries in Osun state.

The aspirants who stepped down are: Adejare Bello, Sunkanmi Akinlabi, Felix Jumoko, Ayoade Adewepo, Adeolu Durotoye, Jide Adeniji and Lere Akogun.
The aspirants announced their withdrawal before the commencement of the primary election.
According to The Cable, some of the aspirants declared their support for dancing Senator, Ademola Adeleke who is also in the race to fly the PDP flag in the September 22, 2018, Osun governorship election.

The ongoing PDP primary election is being supervised by the Governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries which held on Friday, July 13, 2018, saw the emergence of Governor Rauf Aregbsola’s chief of staff, Isiaka Oyetola as the party’s governorship candidate.
The APC chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, has described the upcoming Osun State governorship election as a walk-over for the party.
