Ambode shuts Ojota dumpsite over health concerns

Ambode said apart from the negative health implication, the dumpsite could cause other hazards.

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has ordered the shutdown of the Olusosun dumpsite in Ojota.

Ambode said the site was closed because the location poses a health risk to residents of the area.

He stated this on Friday, March 16, 2018,  while addressing scavengers and other workers following a recent fire outbreak at the site.

The governor said apart from the negative health implication, the site could cause other hazards.

Ambode was visiting the site for the second time since the fire incident in which no life was lost.

He said the closure has become necessary to forestall future occurrence and protect the health of residents.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kehinde Bamigbetan also said that Ambode's visit and the decision to shut down the site is to protect the people and the environment and ensure good health and safety.
